The Wood Walk
How it all began...
The Wood Walk started as a hobby in Tony's Thompson's garage. As far back as 1997, Tony was always involved in building, planning and trying out ideas and working with his Father's wood turning machines in his garage.
From Tony's humble beginnings the business began to slowly grow to take up two garages. Deciding to expand, flea markets, craft markets and open day's became a regular feature on the weekends. First the Pietermaritzburg craft market on the first Sunday of each month, then on to the Westville Scout Bowl and even on to opening a retail outlet in Botha's Hill in 1998, all the while managing to keep a full time job and devote time and effort to his passion - Wood. Each piece lovingly manufactured as if it was to fit in Tony and Sarah's own home.
Tony's interest and skills increased and he discovered that he had a natural talent. His enjoyment and sense of satisfaction grew so much so, that in 2001 he made a career change and opened up his first small factory. The Wood Walk was registered in 2001.
From small beginnings, the business went from strength to strength and the staff compliment expanded into a factory and a shop.
The business has grown through the years, and The Wood Walk has had the support of many loyal customers. We like to think of ourselves as having a close and personal relationship with each customer.
The Wood Walk has adapted though the years to accommodate style trends and offer modern, eclectic, exotic, trendy as well as traditional furniture. The custom made items have become a large part of The Wood Walk's business in keeping abreast with the wants of modern living styles.
The Wood Walk has been proud to have been a part of the building blocks in the lives of the many people who purchase our furniture which has been so lovingly crafted. We have had the privilege of seeing couples become marriage partners, and
later followed the excitement of new additions to each family that The Wood Walk has had the pleasure of meeting.
"I couldn't have been happier with the cabinet that The Wood Walk made for my kitchen. It fits perfectly and looks as though it was made for the space its in." -- Samantha Next - Kloof
"Tony went out of his way to make sure that all the dimensions were correct for the server we ordered from The Wood Walk. It was a surprise gift for my wife, so it was top secret. Needless to say it was a work of art and has a proud place in our dining room." -- Andrew Shrews - Durban
